About Me

         Darren Whichello, The Rat-Pack Magician!

Combining a cool retro look with modern, exciting

and most importantly all, fun magic!

In the 1960’s both my parents worked as croupiers at top casino’s so I suppose it was inevitable that I would grow up to love cards!

After getting to grips with card magic I soon moved onto other forms of close-up magic but never really intended on becoming a professional magician! It sort of happened by chance!

And here I am many years later as a busy Close-Up Magician, performing all over London, Kent, Essex and beyond!

I was personally trained by former Magic Circle President Jack Delvin and have performed live on stage at The Magic Circle (without a doubt the most prestigious and exclusive magic venue in the world!) as well as performing Close-Up Magic in all sorts of venues from Claridges Hotel, The Savoy,

Chelmsford Cathedral and The Hurlingham Club (to name but a few!) As well as many clubs, restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, halls and private homes too.

I like to wear a tuxedo and black tie when performing because people always know that I'm The Magician!

The nickname “The Rat-Pack Magician” came about by accident (as many good things do!) when a client called me it. I would like to think it was not only for my cool retro look but also because I was entertaining and fun too! (The real Rat-Pack, Frank, Dean & Sammy were not only great singers, they were also marvellous entertainers and a whole lot of fun to be around!)

As a busy London Close-Up Magician I have performed in the street outside Saint Paul's Cathedral for two people - a gentleman booked me to perform for his girl-friend as part of a wedding proposal (she said Yes by the way!) - as well as over 300 guests at large parties and everything else in between.

Close-Up Magic is one of those things where less is often more so if you have less than 30 guests I would recommend my services for one hour but if the numbers are nearer 40 one and a half hours might work better.

Once you start getting into the 50's and above two hours will be perfect.

(This though is only a guide, I am happy performing for two hours for only twenty guests - or anything else too! - if that is what you want.)

Magic is not only very entertaining at a party or wedding, it is also a great ice-breaker often getting people who may not be that well aquatinted laughing and talking together, this is very useful early in the evening or at a table where some guests do not know each other .

I always try to tailor my performance to your

requirements and am very versatile.

I am available to hire for parties, weddings or corporate events, to mingle with guests or go around the tables. In fact, any occasion where a touch of magic will make things special.

Although I do not do children's parties, I always have a few effects to show to children who may be attending the events I am booked for.

Unlike almost all my competitors, all my fees are listed on this website.
